City of Blacktown Basketball Association Storm recently competed in the BNSW inaugural U20’s Waratah League Tournament, held at Sutherland and Minto stadiums over two weekends.

Our first weekend saw Blacktown Storm have a blistering start where the team won 4-out-of-4 games against Orange, Lismore, Sutherland and Hawkesbury. We were very impressed, but not surprised, with how the team came together after only a few training sessions.

We qualified for the semi-final where we faced off against the Port Macquarie Dolphins. We were in control of the game until early in the fourth-quarter, where we led by 18-points. Unfortunately, we forgot to tie the bag together and ended up in overtime. We lost aggressiveness in offense and we couldn’t stop their two outside shooters and lost the game by 8-points. Some big learning curves for both players and coaches as a result of this match. It just shows that you can never take the foot off the accelerator no matter how big a lead you have.

As much as this was a hard loss to swallow – we will come out as better players and coaches. This experience will certainly will help us in U18’s and YLM Representative competitions this year, which we are extremely excited for.

Thank you to all the players and Coach Sardi for your efforts in this year’s campaign.

Big Thank you to all parents and supporters that came to support us in the semi-final!
